Guadalmina South

Guadalmina Baja · San Pedro Alcántara · 18 holes · Par 72 · Javier Arana

Guadalmina’s historic coastal layout rewards placement more than a carefree swing at every tee. It is a separate choice from the North Course and should be requested explicitly when you enquire about a visitor round.

The course

Javier Arana’s design developed in stages from 1959, with later renovation retaining its essential character. Tree-lined fairways put a premium on the position of the tee shot, while redesigned greens and water add variety. Several numbered tees allow players to select a more appropriate length.

Who is it for?

Our take: best suited to golfers who enjoy planning a route through a course and accept that a controlled tee shot can be more useful than extra distance. Regular and lower-handicap players should find plenty to think about. Less experienced golfers should choose forward tees with the club’s advice and be realistic about recovery shots.

Can non-members book?

The club offers a visitor route and publishes public green fees separately from member-guest fees. Enquire directly for the South Course, including your dates and handicap information. Tee times remain subject to the club’s availability and conditions; the published public price table is labelled 2025, so obtain an up-to-date quotation.

Can you stay on the course?

The Hotel Guadalmina site adjoins the South Course, but Marbella Tourism currently lists the hotel as closed for refurbishment. Its historic association with the course is not confirmation that rooms can be booked today. For this guide, San Pedro and other verified nearby stays are the practical alternatives.

Facilities and planning

Guadalmina also has the North Course, a par-3 layout and a practice range. Confirm visitor access and what is included in your round. If you are comparing two days of golf, ask about each course separately rather than assuming a booking provides access to both.

A coastal golf location does not mean every hole has a sea view or that any nearby accommodation is at the first tee. Check the clubhouse arrival point, allow a warm-up period and leave space in your schedule for the club’s current pace-of-play requirements.

Before paying, confirm handicap or licence requirements, dress code, equipment, the chosen tee time and any maintenance restrictions with the operator. Hotel and golf bookings are separate unless an explicit package includes both.
